Lead Mechanical Engineer (Senior) - Agri & Food

Location: Wageningen Campus
Type: Full-Time Position
Start: Spring 2023

Function Description

We are looking for an experienced lead mechanical engineer to internally manage our design team and oversee the entire system, as well as to act as a liaison between external engineering companies that support us in development. Your help and expertise are essential to turn our prototypes into marketable products.

Saia Agrobotics is a young and dynamic company that aims to drastically change the production of fresh food through robotization. Unlike current practice, we bring the plants forward individually to process them centrally. This enables us to grow better tomatoes, cucumbers, and peppers and alleviate the heavy labor in the greenhouse.

As a lead engineer, you will work closely with an interdisciplinary team of experts in the fields of AI, botany, as well as with external machine builders and engineering firms to achieve an integrated system. You will work closely with Bart, Saia's CTO and founder, who has 20 years of experience in mechanical design for greenhouse automation.

At Saia Agrobotics, responsibility and ownership of your work are central. We are looking for someone who looks beyond a single subsystem, someone who recognizes future bottlenecks and seeks knowledge and expertise outside Saia when necessary. Critical thinking is highly appreciated and respected, as well as open communication to all colleagues in the company.

You will work with junior and experienced engineers in various configurations. Our close-knit young team consists of highly skilled, motivated, and ambitious people who love robots, technology, plants, and food. We work efficiently but never too hard. There is room for balance, and there must always be room for laughter. Together we strive for a better world and healthy food for everyone.

Our workshop is located on the Wageningen Campus, where we work on our robots and machines. We also have offices on the campus where all plant, software, and electronics engineers work together. We look forward to building our own greenhouse around the corner, where we will test our product.
